What is Eurax used for?
Eurax is effective against various forms of pruritus. The relief it affords sets in rapidly and lasts for some 6 hours. By relieving the itching, it prevents irritation of the skin caused by scratching and thus reduces the risk of secondary infection.
Eurax is also an acaricide and, in addition, inhibits the growth of streptococci and staphylococci, it is particularly suitable for the treatment of scabies, including secondary pyodermal infections.
Eurax also proves effective against pediculosis capitis.
Eurax penetrates easily into the skin without leaving any greasy or shiny deposit on the surface. The lotion is probable for application to hairy and exposed parts of the body and for use on weeping skin.
Eurax is indicated for the treatment of pruritus (itching) of various origin, scabies (infestation of the skin by mites), pediculosis capitis (infestation by head lice).

Medicines should be kept out of reach of children.

Can Eurax be used during pregnancy or when breast feeding?

What else needs to be taken into account?
Dosage:
Pruritus:
Eurax cream or lotion should be rubbed into the affected parts 2-3 times daily until the itching has subsided. This also applies to refractory cases requiring more prolonged treatment, as Eurax is well tolerated by the skin. Patients using Eurax as self-medication should consult a doctor if the itching still persists after 5 daysĄ¯ treatment with Eurax.
Scabies:
After the patient has first taken a warm bath, the skin should be well dried and then rub Eurax into the entire body surface (excluding the face and scalp) until no traces of the preparation remain visible on the surface. The application should be repeated once daily, preferably in the evening, for a total of 3-5 days depending on the response. When applying Eurax, special attention should be paid to sites that are particularly susceptible to infestation by by the mites (interdigital spaces, wrists, axillae, and genitalia). Areas where there is pus formation should be covered with a dressing impregnated with Eurax. While the treatment is in progress, the patient may take a bath shortly before the next application. After completion of the treatment, a cleansing bath should be taken, followed by a change of bed-linen and underclothing. In small children, Eurax should never be applied more than once a day.
Pediculosis capitis:
On the Ist day: Thoroughly wash the hair with warm water and shampoo, then dry well afterwards. Lightly massage an adequate quantity of Eurax lotion into the whole scalp and hair, paying particular attention to the back of the head and the areas around the ears. While Eurax is being applied, the eyes should be kept closed and well-covered so as to prevent coming into contact with Eurax. Afterwards, the hair should be allowed to dry on its own and should not be washed for 24 hours. In the case of children, the head should be wrapped in a towel after the application of Eurax in order to prevent the active substance from entering and irritating the eyes as a result of finger contact.
From the 2nd to the 7th day: Thoroughly wash the hair once daily with warm water and shampoo. Then, using a fine tooth comb that has been dipped in vinegar, comb the hair while it is still wet so as to remove the nits.
On the 8th day: Carefully examine the hair and scalp. Only if lice, their larvae, or fresh nits can still be found at the hair-skin junctions should a second course of treatment with Eurax lotion be carried out. After completion of the treatment, thoroughly cleaned fresh clothing and bed-linen should be used.
